GABA is the primary inhibitory neurotransmitter in the brain, which means it plays a central role in balancing the excitability of neurons (1). Because of this reason, GABA is important for promoting sleep, calm, and managing stress (2-4). Stress is thought to alter GABA synthesis and activity by affecting the expression of GABA-synthesizing enzymes and receptors (5).
Serotonin is important for modifying the thermoregulatory set point (6). This means supporting serotonin may help to ameliorate hot flashes (7). Kavinace Flash-Ease contains 5-HTP (precursor to serotonin) and two botanicals with serotonergic activity (ashwagandha and black cohosh) (8, 9).* Ashwagandha supports a healthy stress response, while black cohosh exhibits GABAergic and potentially selective estrogenic activity (8, 10, 11).* In a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study, black cohosh significantly reduced vasomotor symptoms, improved sleep quality, and reduced wakefulness after falling asleep (12).*
