Optimal Primrose by Seeking Health contains 1,300 mg of organic, unrefined evening primrose seed oil, supplying a concentrated source of biologically active gamma-linolenic acid (GLA). Gamma-linolenic acid is an omega-6 fatty acid that must be produced within the body from linoleic acid, which must be supplied from dietary sources such as vegetable oils. The gamma-linolenic acid, linoleic acid and other nutrients in evening primrose oil are essential for maintaining healthy cell structure and nerve function and may also help support skin elasticity, healthy weight maintenance and normal hormone balance, being of particular importance to women's health. Evening primrose oil is derived from the seeds of a wildflower native to North America, which was used in traditional Native American cultures both topically and internally to support normal healing processes and overall wellness. The high concentrations of essential fatty acids, including GLA, in the seeds of the evening primrose are thought to be largely responsible for the remarkable therapeutic properties of the plant.
