Organic Flax Oil Capsules contain a natural, certified organic source of the essential omega-3 fat alpha-linolenic acid (ALA). Flax oil is the richest plant source of omega-3; over 50% of its fats are ALA. The human body converts ALA to the longer-chain omega-3s eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), which are also found in fish. Omega-3 fatty acids form part of cell membranes and phospholipids and have anti-inflammatory properties. The typical Western diet comprises an omega-6 to omega-3 ratio of between 10:1 and 20:1, but a ratio of 4:1 is desirable. Flax oil has a ratio of 0.3:1. Adequate intake of ALA ensures the availability of omega-3 substrates for the cyclooxygenase (COX) and lipoxygenase (LOX) enzymes, which determine the balance of eicosanoids and other anti-inflammatory messengers in the body. The acceptable macronutrient distribution range (AMDR) for ALA is 0.6-1.2% of total food energy, but higher intakes are associated with greater cardiovascular benefits.
Organic Flax Oil Capsules are guaranteed to contain no eggs, fish, gluten, peanuts, shellfish, soy, tree nuts, corn or dairy products and is free from artificial colours, flavours and preservatives. Organic Flax Oil Capsules do not contain genetically-modified flax and are not irradiated.
