Caution & Words of Wisdon:
Contraindicated with infants. There have been reports of menthol application to infants’ nostrils causing apnea (loss of breath) and even collapse. Contraindicated for use in individuals with enzyme deficiency of glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) most commonly occurring in Chinese, West Africans, Middle Eastern, and Mediterranean heritage. Peppermint can potentiate cardiac fibrillation and should be avoided entirely in people afflicted with this. Not recommended in the evening due to its stimulatory effect on the central nervous system (CNS) resulting in sleeplessness.
